Product Description

The Z1 Baffled Catch Can Kit filters oil and other particulates from the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system on Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35 models equipped with the VQ35HR powertrain.

Blow-by is a phenomenon that is normal to some degree in any internal combustion engine. Combustion gasses leak past the piston rings into the crankcase, creating excess crankcase pressure. The PCV system removes these excess gasses by using intake vacuum to draw them back into the intake where they are consumed, but not without catching oil mist in the process.

The Z1 Oil Catch Can Kit is installed in line with the vehicle's factory PCV system. The catch can uses a steel mesh screen to filter oil and other particulates, trapping them in the catch can while recirculating gasses back through the intake. Removing oil particulates allows the vehicle's PCV system to work more efficiently, removing excess crankcase pressure and keeping your intake system cleaner. In forced induction applications, race engines with looser tolerances, or older engines with more piston ring wear, increased cylinder pressure can cause excess blow-by, resulting in a greater need for a catch can to reduce oil contamination in the intake. While other catch-can systems use universal lines and brackets, the Z1 kit includes vehicle-specific brackets and formed silicone hoses, guaranteeing a precise fit and simple installation.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS:

An optional catch can drain kit makes service a breeze by relocating the drain to a lower position, putting it within reach during oil changes. A knurled fitting is easy to grab, even with slippery fingers while the mess-free center drain reduces the chance of spills during service. Learn more about the catch can drain kit HERE.

Servicing could be improved, but the location is nice if you want it out of sight.

Had this for about a year now. Fantastic. Super easy install through you’ll have to “modify” the engine cover if you still have that installed. Everything you need is right there. I empty every oil change so there is never much in there but removal is pretty simple. Just think it through and make sure you keep a hand under it. It works!

I think the can and lines are well designed, look great, and are also in a discrete area if you are in a state that is over restrictive on items such as this. I actually did not have to remove as many items to get the hoses through, the long hose I was able to snake it through without loosinging the plenum! The main downgrade is because the mount for the can could have been designed just a bit smarter. It needs to be about a 1/2 inch lower so you can put the plastic plenum cover back down and install the nut to keep it down. It does not hit the hood when you close it as far as I can tell, but there seems room that the can could be lower to prevent this problem.

Quality is top notch and the piping fits well. Not sure if this is specific to my RHD Z, but the instructions were not 100%. 1. Maybe I made a mistake but the engine cover cannot be refitted after fitting the catch can due to the top banjo fitting sticking up past the height of the engine. Which is obviously fine, since the engine cover is aesthetic but it would be nice if this was confirmed in the instructions or website. 2. Instructions state to remove the throttle body but I managed to route the hose by only lifting the intake slightly. It may make the job easier if removed, but as most HR owners would know, that throttle body can be temperamental and is best left undisturbed. 3. I could not insert one mounting bolt on the bracket with the catch can attached, so I had to follow a slightly different order of fitment. Bracket to engine first, then catch can to the bracket. 4. More experienced wrenchers would be fine, but noobs like myself might appreciate some torque specs for the banjo bolts. Just to ensure that crush washers are sealing properly.

Works great, I emptied it after 200 km, there was a little bit of oil, it does the job.
